PTSD

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a severe condition that is triggered by experiencing or witnessing a significantly traumatic event.

Overview

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition that can have a severe impact on the wellbeing of the sufferer and is the most common cause of behavioural symptoms like addiction.

Extreme feelings of fear, overwhelming sadness, chronic anxiety and a sense of disconnection after a traumatic event. However, if these feelings do not fade over time, it is likely that you are dealing with PTSD.

Impact of Untreated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Untreated post-traumatic stress disorder has a significant negative impact on the wellbeing of the sufferer and is a cause for many behavioural symptoms.

Untreated PTSD can have long-term effects on people's lives and relationships because it involves a sense of disconnection from others and depression.

It can also lead to substance abuse as an attempt to avoid dealing with emotions.

Symptoms of PTSD

PTSD is often caused by a complex mix of factors, and there is no rule to say what is and what is not traumatic for each individual. Symptoms may present immediately after the traumatic event or may arise weeks or even years later.

For many people the intensity of symptoms will increase when they are stressed or if they are triggered by a reminder of the event.
