What did you do before your role at Noosa Confidential?
I was born in the USA and attended the University of Florida in the 1970’s. I moved to Australia some 30 years ago and have been practicing Ericksonian psychotherapy and clinical hypnosis since 1991.
I am a lecturer at a school for training psychotherapists and hypnotherapists in Brisbane ~ The David Kennedy School of Hypnosis. I have a fairly extensive background in consciousness studies and the transformation of consciousness beginning experientially in 1970.
My clinical experience has introduced me to tens of thousands of amazing people with a vast array of challenges and issues. I have run numerous workshops and lectured all over the world. I am constantly engaged in study, learning both conceptually and experientially.
I am the founder/director of The Overview Institute of Australia www.overviewinstituteaustralia.org that is dedicated expanding awareness of the planetary perspective. I am also in the process of designing educational programs in that vein through my website www.planetaryhuman.com now under construction. I have had a private clinical practice since 1991 and have also worked in larger facilities as a member of various teams since 2008.
Why do you choose to work at Noosa Confidential?
I choose to work at Noosa Confidential because I enjoy working with the select group of team members who participate in running the programs and therapies here. I believe in the working credo of Noosa Confidential ~ ‘It’s never just one thing.’ ... and that a holistic approach is the most effective approach overall and delivers the most lasting and genuine transformations within the individual seeking change.
I deeply appreciate the professionalism that is intrinsic to the operations at Noosa Confidential, and I feel the amazing synergy that is so clearly evident in the working environment ~ wherein the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I find the main driver for me personally is taking up the challenge of working with our amazing clients and watching the transformations unfold as they go through their unique healing journeys through the efforts of the entire team.
What does a general day look like in your work?
My days at Noosa Confidential are quite straightforward. I have a number of sessions that are booked through the master calendar and I meet up with the client at the designated times. I typically have 1.5 hours in face to face therapy for our live-in clients to help them move into a states of greater empowerment and make life-enhancing changes that result in improved resilience, energy, freedom and a sense of meaning and purpose within an unfolding context of optimal futures.
I will at times also meet up with other team members to refine therapeutic strategies for a particular case. I sometimes will be on the phone with former clients in a scheduled follow-up, checking in to see how they are progressing outside of the live-in program.
Why are you most proud to do the work you do?
When I witness people change right before my eyes as they have their various breakthrough moments I experience a beautiful sense of immediate personal fulfilment in the role of therapist, and I know that more or less this change will ripple out into the world and make it a better place for everyone.
I love being a part of an effective team of very talented and empowered therapists – a team that has an obvious and overtly powerful transformative effect on often extremely challenged individuals.
What is your favourite philosophy for life?
‘Life does not happen to us. Life happens for us.’
This can be a very powerful and empowering foundational perspective for making changes and taking ourselves into expanded states of freedom, responsibility, authenticity, and integration.
